Dan Skinner had always seen his brother as a mentor, especially in matters of faith. Some 15 years ago, on the eve of attending a worship service together at his brother’s church, he asked Dan to "be sure to read the bulletin in the morning" so Dan would know the rules for taking part in Communion.
Further discussion made it clear: Dan was not to be welcome at the communion table come the morning service. Dan felt that he was "not worthy."
This experience drove Dan to seek a church home that recognized that Communion was for all. Spirit Alive!'s stance of "all are invited to the table" welcomed Dan to the "coming together" experience he was seeking.
Spirit Alive! makes known that all are invited to the feast of the Lord that is Communion. We share in the feast every week, and make our proclamation that none are ever turned away every week too. Dan joyously says, "it is so comfortable to come together at the table." Now, 10+ years later, Dan welcomes others to the table, offering his energy as a communion assistant and going out of his way to welcome everyone this Spirit Alive!
Dan thanks the people of Spirit Alive! for always including him, and making him feel worthy indeed. And he thanks you personally for being part of his Spirit Alive family, and supporting this “all are welcome” ministry here in Kenosha.
