Mission: Building relationships with God and community through inclusive, welcoming, authentic love.
Vision: To be the most open and affirming, brave, risk-taking Christians in Kenosha.
In 2001, Spirit Alive! began as a collaborative mission between seven other ELCA congregations in Kenosha, with a special focus on contemporary worship and ministry West of I-94. Five years of visioning and growth later, the Greater Milwaukee Synod welcomed Spirit Alive! as a new congregation. Over the last 25 years, we have continued to follow God's creative Spirit!
Today, Spirit Alive! is a vibrant, welcoming faith community. Each Sunday, we ground ourselves in God's Word through music, prayer, preaching, and sharing communion. Our worship services are contemporary and our traditions are eclectic. We work together to foster a space where everyone is free to be their authentic selves - beloved and messy and human.
As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we are a part of one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with more than 3 million members across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. The ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians, and service in the world. The ELCA's roots are in the writings of the German church reformer Martin Luther.
Lutheran teachings emphasize a deep curiosity towards God's movement in the world. From the beginning, "Always Reforming," has been a common motto to help Lutherans stay focused on where God is calling us. At Spirit Alive!, we lean into this by being open to the new things God is doing through us and our neighbors. Following this call takes many forms - from Bible study and contemporary worship to speaking truth to power and serving our community.
